About Voluntary Tuition Programme
The Voluntary Tuition Programme (VTP) is a student-led charitable society that operates as a partnership between St. Andrew's Resource Centre and Trinity College Dublin. Our mission is to promote education as an enjoyable learning experience for children and young people regardless of their socio-economic background. We engage 240 Trinity students, staff and alumni each week in our tutoring and activities programmes with primary and secondary pupils from the communities adjacent to the main Trinity campus. Our members generally volunteer for at least one hour per week, and find the experience a fantastic addition to their studies and/or research at Trinity. In line with our core aims, we organise a range of events throughout the year to encourage the pupils in our programme to consider progressing to third-level education. In addition, the VTP acts as a valuable way for our volunteers to complement their studies with extracurricular experience and meet new friends through our social events. Our secondary school programme operates on the Trinity campus whereby pupils receive one-to-one tuition in a range of secondary school subjects, and in preparing for the oral examinations in second and third languages. Our primary school programmes operate in St. Andrew's Resource Centre and in Ringsend and focus on homework completion and on providing a range of activities such as art, music, drama, and an Irish language club. Our programme for children with special learning needs engages pupils at both primary and secondary level on a weekly basis.
