Terrasink is an innovative environmental tech startup that specialises in carbon sequestration through woody biomass burial. Our unique methodology involves burying organic matter, such as tree trunks, branches, and leaves, in purpose-built chambers that inhibit decomposition.
The wood buried is considered a waste product, being pruning or sylviculture residue, trees affected by bacterial or disease attacks and would otherwise be destined for burning, releasing the CO2 content back into the atmosphere and contributing to pollution.
By inhibiting decomposition, we can effectively sequester carbon for hundreds or even thousands of years, preventing the release of methane and reducing atmospheric CO2 levels. This slow decomposition process allows for the long-term and sustainable sequestration of carbon, making it a viable solution for carbon capture and storage.
The purpose-built chambers used by Terrasink are designed specifically for this carbon sequestration process. This innovative approach ensures that the buried wood remains intact and securely stored, minimising the risk of carbon emissions. Additionally, we actively seek out abandoned quarries or other marginal land to repurpose them as carbon sinks, transforming previously unused spaces for environmental benefit.
