The situation seems clear and dire: We live in a new world with old problems, we live in a new time with a limited sense of the future. The present is gone, it exists in bits and pieces and as a memory. The building blocks for alternative ways of being are at our disposal, but we ignore what this means for how we organize our societies, our politics, our institutions, our lives. The old ways have failed, and the old ways have not failed. Some of the knowledge we need comes from systems thinking, complexity theory, evolutionary biology; some of the knowledge comes from fermentation, repair, writing. The combination of the new and the old seems to be the best way forward in a world where we don’t have a map to navigate but only a compass. From now till October 2025 we are collaborating to build a community of pioneers from academia, business, civil society, entrepreneurship and politics to celebrate a Learning & Action Festival @ Teufelsberg and thereby lay the foundation for the School of Survival.
