About That's Me! Project

The That’s Me! project is funded project by The Office for Students and Research England fund to improve access and participation in doctoral research for global majority students. That’s Me! is a collaborative project between the University of Wolverhampton, Birmingham City University and 14 regional employers/policy makers in the West Midlands. As a group, we will work in collaboration to tackle persistent inequalities that create barriers for doctoral researchers from the global majority groups across the region. We will focus on three large key professional and practice-based subjects 1. Health (including nursing, midwifery and allied health professions) 2. Education 3. Business and Law That’s Me! Is based on two elements of change: Internal Change: We aim to eliminating barriers to access to doctoral study by reviewing university cultures and processes. This includes: • Delivering positive and sustainable change, eliminating barriers to accessing research study at University of Wolverhampton and Birmingham City University • Delivering a strong global majority doctoral student “pipeline” via changes to culture and processes. • Delivering sustainable access pathways for historically excluded learners, driven by co-created innovative methods, which can be transferred across the higher education institution sector and to wider disciplines. External Change: We are collaborating with external stakeholders to create an enabling regional employment environment. This includes: • Collaborating with global majority doctoral researchers, communities, regional employers, and policy makers to develop and implement targeted and transferable strategies for research, career progression and increased representation for global majority postgraduate researchers • Creating a consortium of regional employers and policy makers from around the West Midlands, who will support an ecosystem for global majority postgraduate researchers to thrive.
