About THE HANGLETON & KNOLL PROJECT
HKP is a Community Charity serving the residents of Hangleton & Knoll and West area of the city Broad aims: - To assist and support existing community groups, working with local residents to set up new groups as they are required by the community - Act as a facilitator for external services wishing to provide services to the community residents - Promote and support the development of community buildings, parks and open spaces - Encourage local residents' participation in all forms of voluntary activity, education and employment which may improve the quality of life in Hangleton & Knoll Our special Qualities: - Our Trustees have many years of knowledge and experience and a passion for the local community. The Chair and Vice Chair have been involved with the project since inception, and like the majority of the Trustees, are also members of the community - There is now a strong community infrastructure in Hangleton & Knoll that has developed with the support of HKP - Numerous community groups have been established over the years with the HKP's support. Many of these are still going strong and benefitting the wider community today in a variety of different ways. - We employ staff members who are themselves local residents, who were initially supported as community activists and volunteers within the community - Originated and developed from within the community, meaning we are uniquely positioned to effectively bring together a wide range of activities; including community development work, detached and project-based youth work, and the provision of community learning courses and IT support, to improve the quality of life for our residents - We are privileged to have a high level of resident involvement in all HKP’s activities - Innovative, flexible and always willing to try new approaches for the benefit of the wider community - Still going strong after 41 years, HKP is a good practice model of how a community can effectively develop and manage its own resources
