The Kustom Mindset

One day I decided enough was enough. I was fat, forty something and furious that I had let myself fall so far from the amateur athlete I was in my teens and early twenties. It was then I took up running to lose weight. This decision started a chain of events that led to me achieving many goals including a 100km walk, a couple of marathons, a few half Ironmans (70.3), and my first Full Ironman (140.6) in May this year. During this journey, many professionals helped me achieve my physical goals – a running coach, a triathlon coach, a remedial therapist, an osteopath, a sports therapist, a nutritionist, a pilates instructor, a yoga teacher. But there was someone missing. I didn’t have a professional to help me navigate thoughts about who I was and who I wanted to become. I was missing a Mindset Coach. I was a ‘running, riding, swimming’ body with self-limiting thoughts and beliefs. I had collected this ‘baggage’ over the past 30 years, and although my body was returning to some semblance of its former self, my thinking wasn’t. I was still sabotaging myself through negative thinking, indecisiveness, fears of failure, foggy thinking and trepidation. Over the past few years, I have been working with a variety of strategies that help me navigate and resolve some of these mindset challenges, and I have been working towards developing The Kustom Mindset to help others bridge their gaps. You don’t need to be an athlete for a Mindset Coach – just the desire to challenge the barriers and beliefs you have constructed (both consciously and subconsciously) and a willingness to share these with a ‘thinking partner’ who can guide you through your process.
