It all started in 2019 with our flagship store in Leith, Edinburgh. Down at the shore, in the Ocean Terminal shopping centre, The Leith Collective CIC was founded. CIC stands for Community Interest Company which means that all our profits are reinvested into the purpose of the business and community projects.
Since 2019 we have opened two further shops in the St. Enoch Centre, Glasgow and at Fort Kinnaird, Edinburgh. We are a close-knit team of 5 full time staff, well over 50 volunteers and 130 makers and artists.
Our core business is to offer unique and exciting selling spaces for artists and makers who are growing a business relating to their artwork.
On a commission basis, we offer a financially viable selling space without putting financial strain on the makers.
We offer free mentorship and business advice, allowing our makers to develop their businesses and grow their brands. We actively support individuals with additional support needs and in cooperation with Borders College we run a supported employment scheme.
We take mental health seriously and believe that it should not be a limiting factor when finding employment.
Through campaigns, workshops and events we give back to the community and find creative and exciting ways to keep the conversation around sustainability alive, in particular alongside the arts.
For our shops we are actively seeking artists and makers that are recycling items and converting unwanted items that are heading for landfill into unique one off pieces.
