The Lyell Centre is a world-leading centre for the advancement of Earth and marine sciences, based at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh campus. Through our strategic and collaborative approach, we seek to generate knowledge and explore responsible, practical solutions to major global challenges. Our combined expertise has created a multidisciplinary centre addressing global challenges associated with the Earth’s surface, sub-surface, oceans and atmosphere. An impartial and objective authority in our multidisciplinary fields, our science pushes boundaries and has contributed to the positive transformation of communities and development of more resilient ecosystems. Using research-informed teaching within Heriot-Watt, the Lyell Centre educates and inspires the scientists of tomorrow to consider how to better manage Earth’s resources today.
