Founded by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1986 as the Robotic Technology and Engineering Challenge under the guidance and inspiration of Tom Meravi and Dr. James Hannemann. Known as the National Robotics Challenge since 2005, this event is the longest continually operating robotics event in the United States and is the premier educational event for open-platform robotics competition.
