The Project
The Apolitical Foundation, in partnership with Global Health Visions, is running a learning collaborative for gender equality leaders working specifically on adolescent girls and young women’s rights to better understand and effectively use social norms approaches to advance social and behavioral change.
Why Social Norms?
Social norms are the implicit, informal rules that most people accept and abide by; these rules are learned and reinforced through observation, instruction, and social interaction. Norms play out at all levels, in individuals and communities, and are embedded in formal and informal institutions. When behavior change is the goal, program planners need to understand if, how, when, and under what conditions a behavior is influenced by social norms.
