Haven’t we all witnessed many conferences and talks about the importance of diversity and inclusion. But doesn’t it feel like we are getting nowhere? doesn’t it feel like we are asking the wrong questions? How can women, LGBT members, black and brown, and all the exploited majority be equal in a system that is only built for and by a few privileged elites and the normal white cis heterosexual man? We reached a level where it became unimaginable to dream of a world without tech exploitation, without profit being at the center of it, and last but not least a decolonized tech industry altogether. Can we imagine A tech that isn’t built on imperialistic ideas? Technology, as we know it today, is a newborn fast-paced growing baby. Unfortunately, the data shows that leadership and the entire creation of the tech industry as we know it has been dominated by certain elite individuals. Unfortunately, these individuals and their businesses have thrived and still are thriving, in a world built on racial capitalism, heterosexual Christian eurocentric ideologies, and imperialistic neo-colonialism. We want to imagine the unimaginable. how can we decolonize our minds to be able to create an industry that fits other people, cultures, and geographical locations? How can we use tech to give power to the people and also serve them instead of profiting from them? How can we decolonize the knowledge available online and the languages? How can we flip the table altogether and go back to when Tech was just about transferring data, information, and knowledge freely from one place to the other?
