Type A Dad

Type A Dad was created to help other type A (result-driven) parents deal with the endless juggle of parenthood and life. Type A Dad will explore a more compassionate approach to parenting that helps our kids feel heard/seen for who they are and not the achievement they attain or the things that they do. The approach is based on Conscious Parenting and the need to connect with our kids first and foremost. This connection can then be the basis of our relationship rather than focusing on seeing them excel to the front of some imaginary line thinking it might maximize their chance at happiness. It won't! There are a lot of very successful miserable people out there. Many parenting methods focus on ‘fixing’ the kids. How do we get these kids to see the world in the correct way? How do we just get them to understand that we are doing all of this for them? All of which drives further disconnection. Key problem with this method is that NO ONE can change/fix ANOTHER. You might get them (especially when they are young) to simply follow your lead, but eventually they will choose the role of ‘pleaser’ (i.e. continue doing as is expected of them) or ‘rebel’ (i.e. do the opposite of whatever you ask) – one definitely looks better than the other but both are extremely dangerous to the wellbeing of our kids over their lifetime, and neither is truly a chosen path. Instead, let’s focus on giving our children the space and the support to chose their own path powerfully.
