At the UBC Innovation in DEmentia and Aging (IDEA) Lab, we are dedicated to transforming the landscape of dementia care and aging. Situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people, our lab is a hub for innovative, patient-oriented research.
Our Mission:
To improve patient outcomes and quality of life for older people, particularly those living with dementia, through leading-edge research and technology. We focus on developing and implementing solutions that are not only effective but also empathetic and inclusive.
Our Approach:
At the heart of our work is the commitment to Patient-Oriented Research (POR). We believe in the power of collaborative efforts, bringing together health system planners, researchers, patients, and students. Our projects range from exploring the potential of Virtual Reality in long-term care to using innovative technologies like the LOVOT robot and Telepresence Robots to enhance the lives of older Canadians.
Our Impact:
Through our diverse projects and studies, such as robotic projects, Learning Health System (LHS) and dementia-friendly communities, we strive to make meaningful contributions to senior care. We actively engage in knowledge translation, ensuring our findings are accessible and beneficial to both the scientific community and the public. We have published over a hundred papers and reached 39 countries.
