From monitoring the health of firefighters to preventing electric vehicle fires, our researchers are developing novel solutions at the nanoscale to solve large problems at a global scale. At the UCF Department of Materials Science and Engineering, we boast a diverse and growing faculty that’s been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for its discovery, creation and characterization of nanomaterials used in additive manufacturing, photovoltaic cells, photonic devices, biomedical applications and much more.

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, one of 13 colleges at UCF. It includes the Advanced Materials Processing and Characterization (AMPAC) facility, an interdisciplinary research and education center designs for materials science and engineering students and faculty. Our researchers are also collaborating with other faculty from other disciplines through the NanoScience Technology Center, the Infectious Disease and Travel Health initiative, and several of the UCF faculty clusters.
