UCF Department of Materials Science and Engineering

From monitoring the health of firefighters to preventing electric vehicle fires, our researchers are developing novel solutions at the nanoscale to solve large problems at a global scale. At the UCF Department of Materials Science and Engineering, we boast a diverse and growing faculty that’s been recognized locally, nationally and internationally for its discovery, creation and characterization of nanomaterials used in additive manufacturing, photovoltaic cells, photonic devices, biomedical applications and much more. Our academic programs are distinguished by an outstanding selection of undergraduate and graduate courses as well as graduate degrees that are consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Our students can find a variety of opportunities to publish their discoveries, present their innovations to peers and industry professionals, and to bring their imaginative ideas to fruition under the guidance of faculty mentors who are engaged in a wide range of sponsored and commercialized research. The result is an unparalleled education through inventive research. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, one of 13 colleges at UCF. It includes the Advanced Materials Processing and Characterization (AMPAC) facility, an interdisciplinary research and education center designs for materials science and engineering students and faculty. Our researchers are also collaborating with other faculty from other disciplines through the NanoScience Technology Center, the Infectious Disease and Travel Health initiative, and several of the UCF faculty clusters.
