Ujamaa Community Resource Team

The Ujamaa Community Resource Team (UCRT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the rights and resilience of hunter-gatherer, agro-pastoralist and pastoralist communities in northern Tanzania. With a focus on sustainable land use, UCRT partners closely with these communities to secure land tenure rights, promote natural resource governance, and develop locally driven conservation strategies. For over two decades, UCRT has championed land rights, advocating for policy changes that protect communal lands from external threats and empowering communities to safeguard their traditional livelihoods. By supporting indigenous women in claiming land ownership, working with pastoralist groups on climate adaptation, and facilitating sustainable resource management, UCRT plays a critical role in preserving cultural heritage while promoting ecological resilience. Our Core Areas of Impact: Land Rights and Tenure Security: Working alongside communities to secure communal land titles, ensuring legal recognition of ancestral lands. Community-Based Natural Resource Management: Training local leaders and groups in sustainable practices to manage resources and prevent degradation. Women’s Empowerment and Leadership: Supporting women in gaining land ownership rights, financial independence, and decision-making power within their communities. Climate Adaptation and Environmental Stewardship: Developing practical solutions to address climate challenges, including invasive species management and rangeland restoration. At UCRT, we believe in a bottom-up approach where community voices shape their own futures.
