About UK Open Multimodal AI Network (UKOMAIN)
The UK Open Multimodal AI Network (UKOMAIN) is a national initiative funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) with a total grant of £1.8 million. We connect researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to drive innovation in multimodal artificial intelligence (AI), which integrates diverse types of data, such as text, images, and sound, for transformative applications. Our mission is to advance solutions to tomorrow’s engineering research challenges (TERCs), including health and wellbeing, transportation systems, materials discovery, space exploration, nature-based solutions, and responsible innovation. By fostering collaboration across disciplines and sectors, we aim to build a vibrant research ecosystem that promotes open science, inclusivity, and sustainability. Key activities of UKOMAIN include: - Establishing a robust network of stakeholders to share knowledge and best practices. - Supporting small-scale, high-impact research projects through competitive funding calls. - Organising workshops, hackathons, and training sessions to empower early-career researchers and enhance interdisciplinary skills. - Promoting open research by sharing data, software, and models to maximise accessibility and impact. - Engaging with industry and policymakers to ensure our research addresses real-world needs and supports policy development. With a foundation of over 200 existing community members and support from 33 academic, industry, and non-profit partners, UKOMAIN is committed to creating sustainable growth and driving impactful innovation in multimodal AI. Join us in shaping the future of multimodal AI research and engineering solutions. Follow us for updates on our projects, events, and funding opportunities!
