Value Hold is an insurance product that protects a homeowner against financial loss (equity) on the sale of their home. The policy premium is paid upfront, in a lump sum, at a price calculated by a proprietary risk selection algorithm. The policy remains in force until the homeowner vacates or sells the property, up to a maximum of 15 years.
Housing markets generally appreciate over time. However, there have been periods of significant corrections. Consumers pause at time of purchase due to the fear that they are purchasing at an inopportune time. Home buyers do not have a reasonable way to mitigate that risk. For the middle class, the majority of household net worth is tied up in the value of the primary residences. There is $15.8 trillion of home equity built up in America, but no easy and transparent way to lock in the value.
