Stroke is the 2nd leading cause of death worldwide, affecting 100 million people, and the leading cause of death among women in France, while dementia currently affects 57 million people (a figure that could triple by 2050). By bringing together world-renowned researchers, clinicians and industry partners in a state-of-the-art facility, the VBHI aims to develop a new paradigm for preventing stroke and dementia while promoting healthy brain ageing on a local, national and global scale.
The VBHI is a university hospital institute dedicated to cerebrovascular health based in Bordeaux.
Housed within the Fondation Bordeaux Université, its founders are the University of Bordeaux, Bordeaux University Hospital, Inserm, Inria and the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
The VBHI institute receives government funding managed by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (French National Research Agency) under the France 2030 programme, under the reference "ANR-23-IAHU-0001".
