About Vicars Game Ltd

Vicars Game specialises in producing the highest quality meat and game products to some of the country’s finest restaurants and wholesale markets, and also direct to the public through the farm shop based on the Yattendon Estate. The business specialises in the production of a high quality product using traditional methods working with whole carcasses, freshly cut each day to order, to ensure the end product can be to a customers precise requirements. All our beef is hung and matured for 28 days and the vast majority of our product comes from within a 30 mile radius of our shop. We hand tie all our sausages and cure all our bacon. We have an enviable reputation in the trade for producing a high quality product. The company was established in West Street, Reading in 1886 and traded in the same family for three generations as purveyors of English meat and game. In 1973 the company changed hands and was bought by Alan Hayward who opened a specialist game processing department which continued to expand. In 2001, the business moved to be part of Yattendon Estate, just outside Ashampstead, where the business continued to grow opening a farm shop in 2007 to add to the existing wholesale and catering business.
