In Turkana County, Kenya. Harmful cultural practices like forced child marriage, is an order of the day. According to UNICEF one third of women in Turkana today were married before the age of 18, while still children. This denies girls right to access quality basic education and pushes them far from decision making tables. It also violates girl’s rights. As WE FOR GIRLS, we embark on an initiative to end forced child marriage and in process curb teenage pregnancy through having a meaningful community engagement, media advocacy to eliminate harmful cultural practices and all forms of VAWG.
We are also calling for inclusion of women and girls living with disabilities to leadership position, to take part in community discussion and engagements and to be protected from all forms of violence against them.
