Wend Collective, founded by James Walton in 2016, was an experimental philanthropic vehicle that stewarded resources to empower those most able to fuel social change. Wend emphasized using nature as a guide, transformation through relationships, and elevating the wholeness of each individual.
For over 8 years, Wend distributed funding to an array of pilot projects, initiatives and partners in several countries and tribal territories and across 44 states. Some of the areas supported include:
- Arts and Culture: Collaborative projects and community care for the artists and creators who help us connect with our shared humanity
- Democracy: Building long-term, nonpartisan and diverse civic capacity for all Americans
- Education: Creating the conditions for children to become joyful, successful young adults
- Healing: Strengthening those who experience complex post‐conflict environments and humanitarian emergencies
- Indigenous Rights: Supporting the restoration and protection of Indigenous lands, languages, and cultural traditions
- Land Reclamation & Renewable Farming: Supporting economic justice and healing for disenfranchised land stewards and their communities
- Social Justice: Addressing structural racial inequality through grassroots organizing and policy advocacy
