The WHIP Center’s mission is to pursue research of interest to industry and government agencies to enhance the resiliency of buildings and infrastructure to extreme windstorms such as hurricanes and tornadoes.
The Center is established with the sponsorship of the
National Science Foundation’s Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) Program.
Participating universities in the WHIP Center are Florida International University, Texas Tech University, and Florida Institute of Technology. Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, Enstall, FM Global, Gradient Wind, National Institute of Stands and Technology, State Farm Insurance, Travelers, and Verisk Analytics are the companies who are members of the WHIP Center. The WHIP Center’s work is supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant Numbers 1841523 and 1841503.
