Xpress Software (1981) created form-based tax preparation on the new PC technology for April Tax Service. Xpress Group was created in 1998. Xpress Software was a tradename. I sold the tax and E-File business in 2002, retaining device and data protection technology. It is very difficult to discuss our record without one asking why did we stop? Let's review a bit of history, first: I had to honor to meet the creators of what we call e-File today in mid 1980s. I met experts (ARPANET, etc.) and learned 2 key principals. First: "If 10 people know your security you have NONE". Second: Protect data to where if it is stolen, it cannot be used for harm or profit by the thieves for 20 to 50 years. These are the core principles of the "bottom-up approach." Similar but stricter than Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA). THIS DOES NOT MEAN we were unhackable, but we made it tougher. I created the first million-dollar device and data challenge in 1987 and it ran concurrently through 2002. I also published the IRS E-file Test returns each year our datafile. No one EVER asked for $1 million or made a public claim. Determents. We also created 'ReDirect', a proposed new regulation. Tax preparers faced similar regulations one sees today in NIST, GDPR, CMMC, etc. We created fraud detection edits and other techniques to detect, ID, redirect to honeypots, and report possible hackers and fraud rings to the proper authorities, all on our dime, to protect our clients. I am aware that 99% of you have been taught this is impossible. This has been taught since the early 1990s and the advent of the 'sharing Internet'.
