Your Podclass

Your Podclass is an oracy-focused podcast-workshop that has been built around oracy in the classroom, specifically with the focus on creating equity amongst young people when it comes to sharing their voices and ideas. The same skills used by professional broadcasters and podcast creators are brought into the classroom, and we work together to create the podcast that your setting - and most importantly, the children in your setting - want to create. The very basis of Your Podclass is to grow confidence in every child in the class, so that each individual knows they can communicate their thoughts and ideas in a safe space. Using the same framework professional podcasters use to create their (our) shows, your children will talk about, and work out together: * Who is the audience they want to connect with? Who lives in their microphone? * What their show is going to be about? * How will they describe to people what their show is about? (Creating the synopsis.) * Presenting and talking directly to the listener who lives in their microphone. * Interviewing: not only asking but really listening to get to know the other person. As an ex-BBC and commercial radio presenter, and now a podcast producer for education titles, I bring my 20+ years of expertise to your classroom, alongside my professional podcast recording set-up. When I was at school, all I wanted to be was a radio presenter. But I struggled academically, and in-turn, that knocked any confidence I may have had out of me. I went into radio as a producer, because I didn't feel confident enough to say I wanted to present. It wasn't until my mid-20s I finally made that move. Every child has the right to have their confidence nurtured and to share their thoughts, workings out, and even dreams with others. And that is why oracy in the classroom is so important to me, and why Your Podclass exists.
