Zonares focuses on transforming the utility-scale solar energy landscape, and is committed to accelerating the transition to a sustainable energy economy. Zonares is developing a technology that enables high concentrator photovoltaics (HCPV) using a heliostat field. This achieves the core premise of HCPV: significantly higher efficiency at justifiable cost by means of innovative optics. The patented technology distinguishes itself from existing HCPV approaches due to its cheaper optics and inherent scalability. The share of incident sunlight that is not converted to electricity by a photovoltaic module - typically on the order of 80% - ends up as waste heat and is lost to a conventional solar farm. Zonares' solution simultaneously enables recuperation of this waste heat to drive a water desalination process at relatively minor additional cost. Zonares hereby seeks to also address the important problem of clean and affordable drinking water.
