1954年，集團創辦人楊深波偕昆仲於台中市沙鹿區北勢里，創立味正食品廠。1960年，採「微生物醱酵技術」生產麩胺酸，將糖蜜醱酵轉化為麩胺酸鈉。這項劃時代的技術，(更)同時取得經濟部中央標準局醱酵法製造麩胺酸專利。
1970年，味丹企業正式誕生。味丹致力於核心微生物醱酵技術，延伸擴展各項食品、生物科技領域，提供社會大眾更高品質的健康新生活。
