Brännland Cider aims to combine Swedish apples and subarctic cold to create an exclusive dessert wine for a demanding international market. The beginning of a truly Nordic wine making tradition.
The origins of Brännland Cider
Brännland Cider started in 2010 with the dream of making great cider using apples grown in the cold climate of northern Sweden. After two years of trial, error, discovery and progress we came to the conclusion that our fruit and climate were best suited for making Ice Cider or as it’s called in it’s country of origin, Cidré De Glace.
About Cidre De Glace - Ice Cider
Cidré De Glace or Ice Cider is an ice-wine made using apples instead of grapes and it has since it’s conception in Canada in the early 90s come to be regarded as a premium sweet wine. The Canadian denomination stipulates the use of natural cold to concentrate the apple juice. Very few places in the world can guarantee a recurring cold season to meet the Canadian standard. Northern Sweden is one of those places and our winter temperatures in combination with organic Swedish dessert apples formulate the basic components to make our Ice Cider, Cidre De Glace.
Brännland Cider in the market
In 2012 a very small vintage was made as an introduction into the Swedish market. The reception was outstanding with broad media coverage and glowing reviews.
In 2013 production is expanded to 9.000 bottles ready for release in the Swedish and Scandinavian markets in September.
In 2014 the company doubled its production and settled firmly as a brand and a product in the Swedish market and retail monopoly. Focus in the coming year is to expand into selected export markets.
