Planning Intern
Surrey
My role as an Intern within the Policy Planning team at SCC involved supporting the production of policy , such as the new Sustainable Minerals and Waste Plan 2020-2030, Annual Monitoring Reports, and Waste Assessments, as well as responding to relevant consultations to the Minerals and Waste Planning Authority involving any applications that may need input from SCC. My responsibilities included assessing assigned consultations in accordance with current Minerals and Waste policy and providing comments, as well as ensuring that any relevant parties within the authority (Development Management, Enforcement and Restoration) are consulted. In addition, I was involved in the production of the forthcoming Joint Minerals and Waste Plan for Surrey, generating Topic papers and presentations for the Issues and Options public consultation process. Within the team I worked alongside Principal Planners and participated in weekly Planning policy team meetings and individual meetings with each supervisor of the task assigned. This placement allowed me to develop my practical knowledge of relevant policy documents and the process of plan-making at a county level, as well as the ability to coordinate large inter department projects within strict legal deadlines.
