Research using cellular models to identify mechanisms of hypertension and endothelial dysfunction associated with preeclampsia. Investigated cellular adaptation, specifically how Ca2+ signaling is modified to support enhanced nitric oxide production during pregnancy. Expertise includes fluorescence imaging, assay development, and mammalian cell culture. Assisted with training of graduate students.

Hypertension during pregnancy is biochemically and physiologically complex. I used comparative methods to understand healthy vascular function and researched mechanisms to try and identify potential therapeutics or pathways that could be targeted for the reduction of hypertension. My research focused on KCa channel function in vascular endothelial cells, Ca2+ signaling, and cell membrane electrical properties. Performed mammalian cell culture, vessel dissection, electrophysiology, and fluorescence imaging to study cell signaling mechanisms. I designed imaging protocols and streamlined data processing methods to efficiently gather and analyze new data.
