The premise of the program is to support parents as their child's first teacher, recognizing that not every parent has a degree in early childhood. As a Parent Educator, I brought educational activities that were age appropriate to the child and demonstrated the child's ability allowing the parents to build their observation skills and interact with their child in ways that support their developmental needs. Parents in the program gain confidence in their parenting skills and become better advocates for their child's developmental needs. I was responsible for conducting annual assessments on each child's development in benchmarked skill areas, and provide support for areas in need of attention. Counseling and educating parents on their child's development and possible delays requires advanced communication skills. As a communication specialist, this expanded my own ability to interact with people in stressful conversations, providing support and guidance when appropriate. Show less

However, utilizing the diverse talent and specialists we had in our various park management and maintenance departments, I was able to grow the position over 5 years to include many educational events such as a Physics Fair, Girl Scouts badge events, music festivals, and even a Marketing education event. Promoting the events was not within our budget at first, so my talent for creative design became useful in designing brochures and working with a local printer. Eventually, I was in charge of the Corporate Brochure (including coordinating the photo shoot which was lots of fun!) and all sales collateral development, interfacing with our Corporate offices and clients. My expertise in managing events at the park made me the perfect helper for our Promotions team whenever a big event or concert was in the park so I learned Promotions and Partnership. And because we had regional sales offices in our key markets, many of the sales reps relied upon me to be the in-park escort and onsite sales person for clients that wanted to make a site visit before booking a group, so I honed my sales skills.
