My educational career began in South Korea where I taught Religion and English to emerging language learners. During my time there I created and implemented a supplemental curriculum to assist the students in my English program. This scaffolded program gave opportunity for more students of varying skill levels to be successful and was utilized even after my departure. In my 8 years as an educator I have served both in the classroom and in campus leadership roles. In my time as cultural grade level lead, I was responsible for the facilitation and execution of all campus events including school assemblies and incentive trips. I implemented programs that promoted joy and student investment across the building. This was a role I created myself after seeing a lack in student engagement on my campus. During my time, students across campus saw an increase in testing scores, and teachers reported less in class behavioral issues. As 7th grade level lead, I oversaw a group of 6 teachers, observing and providing feedback to their their individual classrooms and practices. Additionally, I implemented programs and incentives for the 7th grade students, and was the parent point of contact for all 7th grade families. I oversaw the Enrichment program and facilitated restorative practices for students across grade level. As a classroom teacher, during my second year of teaching I created and implemented a new curriculum for my students to use. This was done as a response to the cultural disconnect I saw when we attempted to do the school provided curriculum. The text provided was both outdated and irrelevant to students thus they were unable to make the necessary connection needed to build skill. I created an introductory unit that focused on providing culturally relevant short stories to invest students while also keeping the rigor and building their skill. This resulted in a 50% increase in the amount of students who passed their first assessment, and is still utilized for incoming 7th graders.
