I was born and raised, for the most part, in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. I started college at the University of Portland in Electrical Engineering on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. It was evident early on that I was not cut out for either of those careers. I switched to education and enrolled at Washington State University where I found Special Education as a focus. I had many opportunities to expand my skills and expertise during my educational career. Over time I began to realize that, while I had a passion for supporting students who don't have the same opportunities that I had, I was really looking for something that was more aligned with my life passions.I have recently found a way to link those passions with my professional life! After 17+ years in public school special education (the last 8 in administration), I decided to take the many and varied skills I have developed and translate those into this mission we have at the Mt. Adams Institute to strengthen the connection between people and the natural world through education, service learning, employment and research. My love of the outdoors (especially rivers and mountains) is now the primary focus of my professional life. Come see what we do at www.mtadamsinstitute.com. It's an amazing approach.
