About Aaron West
I am a computational chemist with more than a decade of experience. My interests range from Quantum Chemistry to nonadiabatic dynamics to genomics to testing the stability of codes through test suites with automated scripts.Over the 12 years, I have acquired much experience in programming for advanced quantum theory of electrons, atoms, molecules, and their condensates for the GAMESS program suite at Iowa State University. In working with my postdoctoral advisor, we have developed very specific advancements in the area of atoms-in-molecules.My academic position required a vast amount of data analysis that is essentially unparalleled. As a consequence, I took the initiative to learn other languages such as Perl, Python, and C++ in order to develop testing systems to complement the main work for that position. In addition, I have helped other graduate students in different areas of research by providing programs in a collaborative effort (e.g. microbiology for processing genomic data). In terms of my independent contributions to science, I have contributed a novel orthogonalization method and a method that solves one part of the strong correlation problem.Outside of academia, I have worked as a .NET programmer developing complex applications for industrial oil pipeline modeling.
