Jun 2002 - Aug 2006Assist American Honda SPPC in placing correct parts into inventory in order to fill aftermarket demand of service parts associated with the Marysville Motorcycle plant. This is done through verifying and accepting forecasts and purchase orders. This is also done by communicating priority of part orders to the plant. Information on the plants capabilities in capacity and lead time is supplied to AH SPPC along with abilities to expedite orders, when reasonable. This counteracts critical, customer, and dealer back orders. It also applies to back orders or low inventory situations. Another important responsibility is checking demand involved with build outs of models as they transition to noncurrent. Insuring that AH SPPC is aware of critical build out timing and new model timing. Included in this role is the determination of source and countermeasure for domestic trouble reports or shipping problems being in quality or quantity.In this job, I was able to increase the Supplier Performance Rating of Marysville Motorcycle Plant from an average of 1.89 out of 5.0 for 2002 to an average of 4.71 out of 5.0 for the last year and a half (Dec '04 to Mar '06).The in house painting of service parts resulted in a savings of $400,000 in one year. This savings is in the amount charged to American Honda for painting the parts at MMP versus what we had been charging American Honda to have the parts painted at various suppliers. This also benefited the overall service business as it pressures AH to take parts direct as they build out from mass production instead of at a later time.We have also improved upon the forecast system used to sell painted steel service parts to American Honda that require component parts from Honda de Mexico, Japan and domestic suppliers, guaranteeing that proper lead time is given to each process. -

Simulation EngineerHonda Of America Mfg., Inc. Feb 1999 - Jan 2000Build and conduct simulations investigating the total process flow of Manufacturing systems in North American Honda. Find improvements to targeted systems and predict the effects on these systems. Among these projects modeled are paint shop lot size, automated guided vehicles, alternate paths in plastic paint, emissions studies. Work with Material Service convinced them to hire two associates to continue the work. Paint shop project featured in town meeting given by the President to all of the company.Paint shop lot size project modeled the entire department in AutoMod, the path of bodies, process times, and the repair processes. We studied from lot sizes of 60 down to 1, with different repair rates. Output was the number of stragglers out of the process.I modeled the Automated Guided Vehicle delivery system with multiple zones. This was difficult because of the priority system of parts. The sequence of parts determined if there was downtime. This order was delicate, and had further complications with various quantities of parts per bin. Less parts meant more deliveries. We modeled the proposed delivery systems and were able to confirm the benefit of the new delivery systems prior to installation. We planned the drop lists for the new system, doing all of the trial and error on the simulation. We were able to show how many AGVs were needed for each zone.In MAP Plastic Paint, I modeled the current system of hangers and bumpers throughout the system and changed the system for different proposals in adding a new oven booth to increase capacity. The project team was able to make an educated choice.In Excel, I simulated the current emission levels in BOCs by ELP and MAP Paint shops and the effects of different projects to reduce these. The simulation was used to show what changes were needed to pass the new government regulations that were to take effect. -

The Delivery team includes parts list functions and overall communication with OSL, a third party logistics company formed by MEG for the purpose of delivering parts inside the production departments. These tasks would normally be referred to as Material Service and incorporated a new to North American Honda concept of on-site Consolidation Center. This mitigated many of the supply chain issues and separated them from production, allowing more quality focus at the point of assembly. -
