Alexander Birmingham is a Senior Principal Software Engineer at ExtraHop Networks. He possess expertise in rest, spring, javascript, git, java and 22 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "Alex was the Dev Lead for the UI team and acted as my main point of contact to schedule, prioritize, and make sure that our working team was on track. With our close and effective collaboration, we were able to make sure that the plan for the 2016 UI vision and roadmap would be actionable and meaningful for his team as well as for the rest of the organization. Alex also had great feedback that pushed us to look at edge cases and technical limitations that might limit our ability to deliver some of the UI concepts we wanted to implement. With his deep system knowledge, we were able to scope projects more realistically and effectively. Alex also has a great sense of humor and positive attitude towards his teammates, which made working that closely with him all the better! I hope to have the opportunity to work with Alex again in the future.", "Alex has everything you want in a co-worker: talent, reliability, and enthusiasm. His mere presence on a project improves its odds of success, because his default stance is to look around, see what needs to be done, and unrelentingly chase the task to resolution. Yet despite his obvious talent and productivity, his leadership style is one of humility, and he naturally commands the respect of those around him. I wholeheartedly recommend Alex, and look forward to working with (or for!) him in the future.", and "Alex is always focused on learning, and producing, and hitting the goals we've set. He's smart, curious, and interested, and a great guy to be around. Unless you want to hire him away from us, in which case he's terrible."

Spearheaded development of SOA using SpringMVC. Wrote API client with cross-service exception propagation and type-safe deserialization. Used Javassist to generate API boilerplate. Defined RESTful service interfaces according to the engineering team needs. Wrote a Domain Service Language in jRuby for describing relational data structures in a declarative way, with a parsing tool to output SQL.Ramped up on Javascript to compensate for a team vacancy. Grew the js from a monolithic single file to a modular and unit-tested set of libraries which utilized contemporary clientside-MVC architecture. This growth utilized require.js (modularity), jasmine.js (testing), and Backbone.js (MVC). Rhino and Env.js were used for server-side testing as part of the Gradle build.Wrote/published gradle-jacoco-plugin and gradle-jasquire-plugin (see github.com/abirmingham). Worked with Zero Turnaround developers to enable jRebel support for mustache.java and handlebars.java. Github pull requests for gradle-cargo-plugin, gradle-js-plugin, and gradle itself have all been accepted/merged.
