Although my position has progressed in title, there's nothing I enjoy more than digging my teeth into a clients challenge. I often ask (no matter how audacious the request might sound) what a client would really like to be able to see and do with their data. When I have an understanding of what they would like to achieve, I really am able to offer my full experience to reach their desired end goal.

As our clients grew, a new team was created with the focus on offering a full end to end solution for clients to help with their analytics and marketing needs. My role continued to focus on helping to find solutions for complex data models, being involved in the project from the initial consultation and continuing to actively work on the project until the completion. As I was so hands on with all of the data within the project, I often found myself able to offer a better service to the client in regards to insight and analytics. I frequently produced in-depth analytical and insight reports utilising the Apteco software suite that I had over 10 years experience of using and training companies on. The client I worked most closely with was Greggs - building a single customer view of their loyalty customers alongside a marketing system that utilised live data to distribute data to many different marketing channels and SaaS platforms which enabled Greggs to expand and improve the loyalty platform. The opportunity to focus more on the data aspect of the business presented itself, which I was happy to dig my teeth into. My job function became more focused on working with client databases (in all of their glorious varieties!). During this 7 year stint I was working closely with our larger clients and helping them to utilise and improve their customer databases for the benefit of their insight and marketing.

I started working for Data HQ in 2006, taking on a job that was a junior position supporting the general IT/networking issues across the business and also helping the data team to fulfill requirements. My role was really varied day to day, from pulling apart computers, to building/cleansing databases. I really enjoyed the variety of work I was doing and was kept busy with plenty projects and courses to continue my development.

As soon as my college course ended, I was eager to start earning a salary that lasted more than two days. My cousin was working as a teacher training consultant and said that they were hiring for the role. The job title sounded fancy and his description of the job peaked my interest. The role was working on behalf of the Training and Development Agency, advising people on how to become a teacher.I went through a week of training in all of the academic requirements for becoming a teacher, along with finer details of conversion courses, types of teacher training, financial incentives and costs, foreign equivalent qualification and general conversation etiquette and diplomacy. The first 8 months I was assigned to inbound enquiries, which was enjoyable to an extent. I had to think quickly and make sure I was answering with the correct information for each persons circumstances and then logging their information for the outbound team to follow up on progress. I earnt a promotion to the outbound team, which I enjoyed much more as I was able to start building a rapport with high priority applicants and progressing them through the process of becoming a teacher. I got a lot of satisfaction from helping the people to reach an end goal that they thought probably wasn't initially possible. Show less

Aside from a paper round, this was my first proper job. I worked 13 hours a week, split over 3 evening shifts to help fund my social life whilst in college. By Sunday each week, my weekly pay had been exhausted on the weekend activities. I think my presence was generally appreciated - although my not in my job role, I became the go-to person for technical issues with the EPOS systems, stock control computers and internet.
