I worked as an Assistant to the IT Manager during my time at Hale Hamilton Valves. My main role was to maintain the company’s IT infrastructure over 3 individual sites. I had to support many different systems, including Microsoft Windows NT, 98, 2000, XP, Server 2003 with Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange 2003, Watchguard firewalls, Siemens and Avaya telephone systems, Citrix Presentation Server and anti-virus software. However, my role was not just maintenance based as I had to work within a busy IT Helpdesk, prioritising my workload as and when required.In addition to my above role, I had the opportunity to manage a series of IT projects and implementations. Possibly the biggest project I managed was the purchase and installation of IT equipment for a brand new site. The site started with no IT network infrastructure but was up and running, under budget within 8 weeks.I also had to use my Visual Basic programming skills to write numerous applications for the company where I identified possible automation or time saving benefits. One of which helped configure a live link between our PDM system (DBWorks) and our ERP system (SAP).
