In the Economic Strategy Branch at DPC, I was involved with the successful delivery of the budget briefing process in DPC. I also supported government reform by developing policy proposals and advice for the government on taxation policy, the government's housing strategy Homes for Victorians, and the Latrobe Valley Economic Growth Zone, much of which was implemented by the government.

As an economist at GLA I was involved in developing the economic forecasts for the London economy, including improving the existing forecasting processes in place. I also undertook a number of economic research projects to inform decision making in other teams across City Hall.

I developed analysis on various aspects of the housing market to support media coverage, campaigns, and policy development. My analysis of the stamp duty changes in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, and the impact of the changes on increasing house prices secured extensive media coverage, and influenced the policy debate. I used my economic understanding and communication skills to influence the development of Shelter housing policy, particularly around the broader economic dynamics of the housing market, and more specific issues including rent regulation, housing related welfare, housing taxation, and macroprudential regulation.

I undertook analysis to develop a detailed evidence base, to support policy development and forecasts of economic indicators, and government taxes. Areas of focus included population growth, and the housing and business sectors of the economy. This included the development of a new econometric forecasting model for transfer duty revenue, which significantly reduced the forecast error of the published estimates in the State Budget. This was supported by ongoing briefings and analysis to support the decisions of senior stakeholders.
