Independent Researcher
My research in the Southern Peruvian Amazon focused on how Natural Protected Areas, designed to conserve the amazonian biosphere, are compromising the livelihoods of indigenous communities. The study encompassed three native amazonian communities and employed comparative ethnographic methods to determine how the Natural Protected Areas are deteriorating cultural traditions and inhibiting traditional foodways. The fieldwork was supported by a Bank of America Kemp Scholar Grant and an Abernathy Endowment Grant and the research findings were the backbone of my undergraduate thesis.

I served as a member of Davidson’s Honor Council from 2017-2019. In 2019 I transitioned to serving as Chair of the Council. Research Assistant
As a research assistant for Dr. William Ringle and the Bolonchen Regional Archaeological Project (BRAP), I employed LiDAR imaging technology to digitally discover and investigate Maya community development, land and water use, and agricultural practices. I synthesized aerial LiDAR reconnaissance, global positioning systems (GPS) data, and Global Information Systems (GIS) to map previously undiscovered homes, buildings, water storage structures, and other indications of the ancient Maya civilization in the Yucatan Peninsula.
