    Two-dimensional (2D) materials, or materials with layered structures held together by Van der Waals forces have the ability to form pristine interfaces with other 2D materials. Since the discovery of graphene, 2D materials have become a highly active research area. In this project, we study spin-orbit torques in Fe₅GeTe₂ to identify materials suitable for low-energy storage devices. My role includes fabricating devices using exfoliating techniques and lithography and developing measurement techniques to investigate spin-orbit torques. The goal is to understand and optimize these materials for efficient energy storage applications.

    My master’s thesis focused on spintronics, specifically on "Spin pumping in low spin-orbit coupling material C60 in LSMO/C60 bilayer." Spin pumping is a technique for generating pure spin currents by driving the spins in a ferromagnet (LSMO) to a higher angular momentum state using a radio frequency source. This spin current transfers angular momentum from the ferromagnet to an adjacent non-magnetic layer, typically needing a material with high spin-orbit coupling to observe the inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) and convert spin current to charge current. In our research, we used C60, an organic semiconductor with low spin-orbit coupling, as the non-magnetic layer. Remarkably, we observed spin pumping and spin-to-charge conversion, likely due to the curvature-enhanced spin-orbit coupling of C60.
