My role was to set up and develop Coral Insurance - a separate company that manages the claims on behalf of Coral Underwriting.Key responsibilities included the establishment of a flexible and scalable claims operation, professional and proactive handling approaches, embedding a culture of empowerment and high performance, and development of market leading processes / supply chain / IT and technical standards.

The role provided leadership and coordination for key strategies with application across multiple classes of business and across claims and underwriting. Examples included major client servicing, CRM tools, broker relations and Industry Sector specific insurance propositions. In addition I established a cross class counter-fraud strategy for Claims, and managed Legal Expenses claims.

The role was responsible for leading a claims operation comprised approx 250 staff, based in multiple locations, servicing 70000+ claims per year. In addition, I managed Extended Warranty claims worldwide.

The Ensign motor business grew from £20m to £240m in just 10 years, bringing significant challenges in terms of growth and change management. Reporting to the Claims Director, I was responsible for technical claims strategy, developing processes and establishing and managing specialist teams as appropriate. I was also responsible for Claims Supply Chain and Reserving management.

Delivering claims management services to insurers under delegated authority, I was responsible for delivery of claims service, dealing with individual performance objectives, performance counselling, training and appraisals. In addition I was responsible for monitoring quality of output, high-level complaint handling and meeting with auditors and insurer clients.
