About Adrian Walker
I'm a proactive, results-driven Emergency Manager with 20 years of experience in emergency response and recovery operations including national deployments to catastrophic disaster sites such as Hurricanes Sandy, Harvey, Maria, and Florence, floods in Colorado and Louisiana, and other federally declared disasters across the U.S. I initially found my inspiration for emergency management through the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 2004. During Hurricane Charley, I led an evacuation of Homestead Air Force Base in Florida. The responsibilities and actions I took to coordinate the evacuation of 2,000 military personnel and their families; moving multi-million dollar aircraft to other bases; and managing critical resources, drove my newfound desire to learn more. Afterward I sought a position with the City of Kansas City, Missouri Office of Emergency Management. As the Emergency Planning Coordinator I worked dozens of local emergency operations center activations to support the response to severe storms, flash flooding, and hazmat incidents. I also coordinated mass care needs such as shelter and feeding operations with voluntary agency partners including the Red Cross and Salvation Army. The best thing about this field is that no matter what I am doing my actions help communities and disaster survivors at their most vulnerable. I am proud to collaborate with whole community partners to develop equitable and progressive concepts and solutions to build resiliency and ensure everyone is cared for before, during, and after disasters. One of my proudest moments was winning the Federal Emergency Management Agency Exemplary Emergency Manager of the Year Award in 2012 and again in 2014. I developed the Joplin, MO Tornado Federal Coordinating Officer After Action Report after interviewing dozens of federal, state, local, NGO, and community officials regarding best practices following the tornado. My report led to significant national changes in federal emergency management. In 2014, I led development of the FEMA Region 7 Recovery Trail Exercise Series which created training and experience for partners and stakeholders on disaster recovery concepts, addressing a major emergency management capability gap.If you want to connect or know more about my professional story, send me an InMail message or email me at adrianwalk75@gmail.com.Key Strengths: Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist | Operations Chief | Response & Recovery Expert | Strategic Planning | Disaster Planning & Preparedness | Former United States Air Force | WebEOC – Emergency Management Software
