In this position, I work as a teaching associate for a lower division general education biology course, entitled Biological Inquiry. The duties include preparing for a teaching a weekly laboratory section, and meeting with my lab instructor and other teaching associates weekly to ensure efficient and engaging transfer of material to my students.

I work as a biologist for an engineering firm, specifically within their environmental consulting unit. My consulting work primarily involves being contracted by California Department of Transportation and Pacific Gas & Electric, and in my role as a biological monitor I have done several pre- and post- construction surveys as well as on site monitoring during construction activities. This includes nesting bird surveys, monitoring for sensitive species, providing worker environmental awareness training to construction crews before work begins, and compiling survey results in a daily or weekly report to send to the client.

In this position, I worked to catalog incoming data on rare plant and animal species with the California Natural Diversity Database branch. Using a variety of resources, including BIOS, museum specimen databases, ArcGIS, and species range maps, I use a specified sourcing form to locate the proper USGS 7.5 quad and county that the individual of a certain species was found in, based on data provided to our branch from other CDFW branches, USFWS, and a variety of individual environmental companies. Our branch produces a Special Plants and Animals List, both available on our website. Some elements that we track are the entire species, whereas others are one or more subspecies or varieties. If we receive vague data that does not specify the subspecies or variety, I use the aforementioned resources to help determine if they saw a species that we track, or not.
