Ailsa was the principal consultant in Eco Logical Australia’s Queensland team, former Regional Manager for QLD-NT-WA and lead of the ELA aquatic ecology team. She is an experienced aquatic ecologist with a Doctor of Philosophy from James Cook University. She has an extensive background in assessing biodiversity, and managing environmental approvals.

Ailsa worked in the Ports and Marine Section of the Environmental Assessment Branch. There she assessed Sea Dumping Permit applications and EPBC Act approvals documentation.Ailsa also worked in the heritage division. In this role, she was involved in the review of the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984.

Ailsa's PhD was entitled Macro ecology and biogeography of benthic marine algae. She was also a research assistant to Prof Terry Hughes and carried out numerous field trips, including an extensive cross shelf coral recruitment field program.
