Assisted in the collection and collation of data during fish port sampling, which involved recording of biological data and removal of otoliths.Laboratory work; mounting otoliths for age reading, aging of various commercial species such as Atlantic Cod, Plaice and Herring.Data entry – Programs including Ostrum, Stockman, Microsoft Access databases. Worked on board the Irish National Research Vessel, RV Celtic Explorer as a fisheries biologist for an acoustic survey. Duties included herring otolith removal, aging and maturity, collecting biological data of all species caught.Trade show in Killybegs Fish Ireland 2012. Organising information stand and manning stand for one day. Interaction with industry and public.Marine Institute’s logistic team for the Euroscience Open Forum 2012 during the Dublin City of Science Week. This involved providing tours of the National Research Vessel RV Celtic Explorer to European Delegates, setting up information stands.

Undertook several environmental walk-over surveys of various proposed road construction schemes and extensive habitat and species surveys for bridge works in order to produce habitat location maps. Prepared baseline Environmental Impact Assessment Reports for proposed bridge and road construction sites, several of these sites where in areas designated under various habitat and species protection legislation which required strict mitigation measures to be included in the reports.Attendance at Oral Hearings for various types of Schemes

Assisted in biological sampling; including beach seining, small boat trawls, seabed sediment samples included laboratory analysis.Laboratory work; stomach content analysis of various juvenile fish species, mounting of otoliths for aging.Part of my analysis contributed to De Raedemaecker, F., O'Connor, I., Brophy, D., and Black, A. 2011. Macrobenthic prey availability in flatfish nursery grounds and the potential for food competition between 0-group plaice and dab. Journal of Fish Biology Accepted.
