I have been privileged to work with various companies and professors to study both the biomaterial and biomechanical properties of products in the attempt to improve their function and enhance the quality of life of those who use them. With these opportunities I have become adept in various research techniques, the qualities and mechanics of biomaterials, and I have also become well versed in the writing of formal research reports to communicate my findings.I was a member of a small team that completed extensive research on a well-regarded transtibial prosthetic. My team and I were able to redesign this product with optimized materials and parameters and then confirm the integrity of the improvements through stress and material testing that we conducted with Abaqus software. Additionally, my senior capstone project with the University of Iowa included working with the biomedical device company, Medical Murray. With their mentorship, we designed a cardiac catheter that enhanced the maneuverability and control of multi-directional catheters.Furthermore, I was given an internship with the filtration company, Global Filter. I started my journey with this company as a filter production employee, earned the role as their engineering intern, and even became a trusted member of their quality control team. In this position, I helped design filtration systems, tested the integrity of filters, and regularly relayed the results to my superiors through formally written reports.
