Great thing about being a part of a small team of technical staff is that there's no end of variety. Everything including spinning up new machines, crimping/running cable, debugging system backup scripts, to slinging code for the ERP that runs the company in 4 different languages (perl, php, python, javascript) and support in a single day, there's always something new and interesting to do. Interestingly, the reputedly most reviled part of the job, support, has become one of my most enjoyable: It's incredibly satisfying to see how actions taken at a system/software level improve all my peers' productivity and quality of life.While I still do many of the same things that I did when I started, as the company grows, my focus has likewise gradually shifted towards more strategic. IT's no longer a couple of guys who work on the computers but a team of pros that have been in the industry for good long time. It's been a wonderful learning experience and great fun to work with colleagues that support each other with amazing skill sets that complement each other. The philosophy of the team is very strongly user focused and it pays off with great, supportive relationships with the other teams giving us their trust that what they need will be there.Development wise, I still keep my fingers dirty and am the primary developer of:- Internal OpenERP module to handle all payroll needs handling both data collection and deduction calculations- Swampyer, a lightweight python implementation of WAMP Proto clients- Customizations layered on top of Crossbar.io used to handle all internal RPC/PubSub transactions- Working on wrangling Jupyter Labs so that we can have a consistent and secure environment for individuals to write ad-hoc code to interface with our internal systems.
