InternAegis Limited Apr 2012 - Jun 2012MumbaiThe consulting arm of Aegis Ltd. took up the project for a major mobile phone retailer. The aim was to assess the factors influencing the conversion of the prospects walking in the retail stores and suggesting ways to improve the conversion rates.Twenty stores in Mumbai were targeted for a pilot run and extensive surveys were carried out. The information was collected from over 750 prospects and customers over a period of three weeks. Some very interesting trends and patterns were observed and corresponding action points were devised to influence the conversion rates in a positive way. The chances of conversion and the characteristics of prospect were also connected through the observed data.Also, mystery shopping was done at these stores as well as in some rival stores to assess the differences from the eyes of a prospect customer.The final findings and suggestions were then presented to the COO of the mobile phone retailer.I conducted the surveys in the mobile retail stores as well as mystery shopping in these stores and rival stores. The data crunching was performed and relevant and insightful patterns were identified. -

Intern StudentUniversity Of Tübingen May 2008 - Jul 2008Tübingen Area, GermanyVoice over IP is transmitted in the form of packets of data. A significant fraction of these packets contribute very little to the voice quality or intelligibility. These packets, if dropped at the source itself, would allow the message to be transmitted using very few packets, while also preserving the quality of the audio.The real challenge lies in identifying the insignificant packets and further, doing it in real time.We used the AMR 122 speech codec to generate codec parameters (fixed and adaptive codebook gains) & created a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) using MATLAB. In an HMM, the sequence of states is hidden while each state generates a visible output. In our project, the states are the MOS values (1 to 5) of the speech packets and the outputs are the codebook gain values. Thus the objective is to predict the MOS values using the codebook gain values in real time.This project formed one of the basic works for the establishment of a successful start-up called Symonics GmbH.I studied the 3GPP terminologies & the mechanisms of Hidden Markov Model & AMR 122 speech codec. An HMM model was developed in MATLAB & hit-n-trial experiments run on it to find the appropriate combination of codebook gains to maximize the accuracy of the prediction of MOS score of each voice packet.
