Al Brown, Associate Teaching Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University and President of Brown Environmental ConsultingAl’s 47 years of professional experience spans multiple environmental management programs including air quality, water, wastewater, solid waste, vector control, emergency management, public administration, and general environmental health. During his ten years as Director of the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department, he directed the agency’s air and water quality, food safety, wastewater management, vector control, recreational water quality, emergency management and disease control programs. Al retired from Arizona State University at the end of 2022 after 17.5 years of teaching B.S. and M.S. level classes within the ASU Environmental & Resource Management program. Some of the classes he taught were on the topics of air pollution control, hazardous and solid waste management, environmental remediation, environmental laws, environmental leadership, environmental health, and sustainability.Al is a former Principal Investigator for research projects to evaluate best operational practices for public drinking water systems, developing national emergency management training courses and evaluating Sister City Joint Contingency Plans along the U.S. - Mexico border in Region IX. He served as a Co-Principal Investigator for several other environmental and emergency management research projects including energy assurance planning and development of new arsenic removal technologies for drinking water systems, soil bioremediation and U.S. Mexico hazardous materials training projects. Al is the President of Brown Environmental Consulting where he provides expertise to clients seeking environmental health and safety compliance assistance. He has a B.S. in Zoology and a Master of Public Administration degree. He is registered with the State of Arizona to conduct environmental health investigations and he holds certifications as a Certified Public Manager, and in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
