Solicitor, former statutory chief officer and senior local government manager committed to delivering real improvements to local authority services and the lives of residents. Between May 2021 and June 2023 my services as a consultant for East Hampshire District Council (and also Havant Borough Council for much of that time) investigated and/or resolved all councillor complaints at District, Town or Parish level. I advised EHDC on the termination of their joint management and service partnership with Havant. I reviewed and introduced a revised Constitution appropriate to EHDC’s new standalone status. I provided a complete corporate governance service and strengthened decision-making in all aspects. On 22 May 2021 appointed as the Independent Person for Maidstone Borough Council for a 4-year term of office. Appointed as an Independent Person for Basingstoke and Deane BC for a 2-year term commencing 1 November 2021. Responsible at various times for a range of in-house functions, including legal and democratic services, procurement, facilities, elections and local land charges but equally comfortable working in partnership with customer-facing colleagues or contractors. Sees the lawyer's role as one that should combine the aim of enabling local ambitions with an innovative and practical approach to problem-solving. Thirty years' Monitoring Officer experience since the dawn of the statutory role, vast experience of working with Members and taking corporate responsibility for all aspects of corporate assurance and governance. As Data Protection Officer led on GDPR and compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018.
